Many of us out there rely heavily on Google Maps to get us around. Heck if it wasn’t for Google maps I’m not sure if many of our Hot Tech Hotties would show up for their shoots. But now once you get to your destination, like lets say and airport or a mall, now you can have Google Maps help you find your way around indoors. “When you’re inside an airport, shopping mall or retail store, a common way to figure out where you are is to look for a freestanding map directory or ask an employee for help,” explained Brian McClendon, vice president of engineering for Google Earth and Maps, in a blog post announcing the new capability. “Starting today, that directory is brought to the palm of your hands.”
Just released on Tuesday in the U.S. and Japan, this new feature on Google Maps 6.0 for Android includes a variety of retailers. In an interview with TechNewsWorld,Greg Sterling, founder and principal with Sterling Market Intelligence said, “In large complexes like airports or shopping malls, there is a great utility in finding store locations, bathrooms and escalators.” “For travelers in an unfamiliar airport or terminal, for example, a common question is often, “is there a better restaurant beyond security, or should I eat now?” Sterling pointed out.
Some of those retailers included in the new Google Maps are airports including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Chicago O’Hare and San Francisco International Airport. Malls like the Mall of America, which in my opinion, well needed, IKEA, and select Home Depots, Macy’s, and Bloomingdale’s department stores.
