How to Take Care of Computers

Computers have made life so much easier. One can do their work at the office, play games with friends on a PC or use the services of the latest communication tool on a laptop. In short, computers have made it so easy to work.


The fact is that computers have become so popular that almost every home and business use one. Because of this, computers are subject to be damaged or destroyed by natural elements like fire, flood or smoke. This is why it is very important to maintain and care for a computer properly.

A few simple steps can greatly increase the lifespan of your computer. The first thing you should do is wipe down the monitor and keyboard. Make sure you clean the screws, cables and any other parts that may have collected dust on its own.

Also remove the graphics card and the CPU. You can keep these as temporary storage. Then wipe the computer with paper towels or a dry cloth to remove any extra dust.

It is also advisable to run special software to check your computer’s files. It may be more expensive than using regular programs but it is a lot safer to use. There are also special software available to scan the registry and clean up the junk files. You can download these from the Internet.

Make sure you don’t put more files into the hard drive. Instead you should create a new folder for everything you do on your computer. As well, make sure you store your files in a separate folder from the one you are working on. This will prevent you from accidentally deleting something when working on a new project.

Change the keyboard’s layout. Most new computers come with a standard configuration that is hard to customize. If you want to change the keyboard layout, you can buy specialized hardware for the purpose. Most commonly, people prefer to use a standard keyboard with a number pad. Some people might not agree with this but it is still a good idea to change the keyboard layout.

Windows Registry should be maintained properly. Any changes made to the registry will result in the loss of data. Try to back up the registry before modifying it. Your operating system and other applications can be lost if you can’t access the registry after some modifications.

Back, up your computer by making a copy of the whole system. It is a good idea to create a back up before doing any modifications to the registry. If you have a computer technician, he or she can help you with the process.

If you don’t have the time or knowledge to back up your computer, you can always call the time computer technician. They can do this for free.

At night, turn off the computers and make sure there is no moisture or heat in the air to prevent them from overheating. When you are sleeping, make sure the computer is in a place where you can’t accidentally get it. Usually computers are located in the bedroom. Make sure there is enough space for the computer to sleep.

These are some of the things you can do to prolong the life of your computers. Try to do your part to extend the life of your computers by taking care of them. Doing so will ensure that you will be able to utilize the computers for a long time to come.
